We had visitors at the office and no where to go for lunch, Mr Boss : ‘err..i saw a dimsum shop somewhere along Old Klang Road ‘ Me : ‘ I know, I know, I know…Jade Pot ahh ?’ Inside, I was exploding with glee, this was somewhere I had wanted to try out but from it’s appearance, always felt that the price might be a bit steep for my budget ( well, I am a hawker-food / food court kinda type mah)
There were ample parking space, either in front of the restaurant or the basement parking – all free parking. As we stepped into the restaurant, we were efficiently ushered to a table and they were ready to take our orders
Jade Pot Dimsum and steamboat restaurant offers dim sum amd streamboat meals . Steamboat set are priced at RM46.80+( 2 pax ), RM89.80+( 4 pax ) and RM139.8+( 6 pax ) excluding drink. As we still need to get back to office devoid of food odour on our clothings, we opted for dimsum
Glutinous bamboo rice (RM4.80), – a glamourous cousin of the Lor Mai Kai ? taste wise not too bad- not too heavy , chicken and mushroom were tender , the glutinous rice were glutinous. 🙂
Claypot chicken with Chinese wine RM8.80 – I had expected this to be similar to the soup for ladies in confinement and it didn’t turn out to be so. This was sweet or more accurately overly sweet, can’t really taste the aroma of Chinese wine or the ‘hotness’ of the ginger. Sorry, but . I didn’t like this.
BBQ pork rice noodle roll (Chu Cheong Fun) RM 5.80) – I am no fan of CCF, but this was not bad, smooth and non floury. Pan fried raddish cake ( foreground) RM4.80– tasty , I liked this ( actually, during this trip, I didn’t even get to eat my share , not sure which greedy person took mine ( You Glutton , youuuuu ) , I only got to taste it ~ 1 month later during a second trip)
Char Siu pau ( BBQ pork bun) RM 4.80 for 3 pieces. The dough was good- fluffy and not heavy, the bbq pork filing was not too bad- rather tasty, with not too much oily bits.Top right – Prawn dumpling / Harkau RM6.80 for 3 – rather ok, but working out the maths, this cost >RM2.30/pc, which I would say was a bit extravagant . Smoked pork beancurd roll RM5.80 – not bad, in my opinion -beancurd roll goes well with anything !
Oyster sauce Choy Sum RM6.80 – this was a good change as there were really so much meat and flour that one can take , the choy sum was tender and nice. A debate had started around the table that why are these called Hong Kong choy sum, they came all the way from HK meh ? anyone that knows the answer, please leave a comment, thankeee,,
Stir fried raddish cake ( RM5.80) – I think this was the best of the lot, lotsa taugeh, soft and chunky raddish cake, spring onions..yummm..
Fried yam puff (RM4.80) , apart from char siu pau, yam puff should probably be my other favourite dimsum, but I was to be disappointed. This was overcooked – or should I say overfried . The puff weren’t puffy but being over fried were kinda hard, dry and they were rather oily too. EKKK… but am glad to report, on my 2nd trip – the yam puffs weren’t overfried and retained their yumminess and puffiness.
This we ate ( first and second trip but no pixs – you know la, sometimes not so convenient to take pixs)
– steamed chicken feet (RM4.80) – the feet were hard and regardless of coaxing, the skin weren’t falling off the bone but remain stuck to the bone, tsk tsk tsk
– fried minced pork dumping RM4.80 – nope, not my thing
– Steamed fish ball RM4.80 – hmm..this was nice, springy and firm with lotsa fishy goodness, wa sukak
– Fried spareribs with fermented beancurd RM8.80 – this was a bit overcooked and some pieces were quite tough, the aroma of fermented beancurd weren’t that prominent
There is a special promo at Jade Pot during the time of visit : on Mon – Sat , excluding public holidays & Sun – with a minumun spending of RM50 you get 20% discount off dim sum (total bill) . and also if you spend a minumun of RM50 , you get a 10% discount voucher for your next visit. With the discount voucher you will entitle to have 30% off (20% + 10%) on your next visit for dim sum. 
So, overall, the bill came to being quite reasonable. Overall, I wouldn’t say it’s outstanding dimsum but more like a pleasant meal in a pleasant environment. Would like to try out the steamboat, so I have to wait for more office visitors to come.
