I read write-ups about Bavarian Beergarden (BB) and the comments were mostly favourable, I like pork but then the prices at BB seemed to be rather steep for my kinda budget, so, I jumped with joy when I saw the promotion on the www where I pay RM50 but get to spend RM100 at BB.
There are 2 BB outlets in Kuala Lumpur and the 2 sites are rather closed by each other, one was at Old Klang Road and the newer outlet was at at Taman Desa. We visited BB on a Saturday afternoon, the setting was rather cozy and classy-with checkered red table cloth and leather chairs, but it was rather empty and we had the place to ourselves.
The menu was extensively porky , from the appetizers section prices range from RM12 – 22 : pork liver pate, bacon and bread, crispy pork crackling, grilled streaky bacon, cold cut platter, salads and soups were also available. In the pork knuckle section , a serving portion for 2 persons include – honey pork knuckle. Bierhause knuckle , garlic herb knuckle and knuckle combo – price range from RM70 – 85. Apart from the knuckles, there were also pork sausages , ribs, pork belly. Non porky fan are not left out lah, one can order fish and chips, lamp shoulder , roasted chicken breast. We decided to try out the most from this visit and the Butcher platter (RM96) under the ‘combo for two’ menu seemed a good choice , this include : half pork chops, half pork knuckles and pork belly plus vegetable and potato salad. You can view the online menu by clicking here
The drinks menu was rather extensive , from fresh juices, soft drinks, milk shakes, coffee, tea, mocktails, wine , cocktail, Bavarian and German beers ( Erdinger, Franziskaner, Konig Ludwig and Lowenbrau) and International beers ( Warsteiner, Leffe Blonde, Stella Artos, Corona, Carlsberg etc) . It was too early for beer, so we decided to just have 2 glass of cold water..
I think BB’s owner must be a fan of Marlon Brando / The Godfather as the walls were largely filled by posters of Mr Brando from scene of the Godfather. Ahh.. this reminded me of that haunting tune ‘speak softly love’ which rang in my ears weeks after watching The Godfather.
Although the portion was for two, my sister and I couldn’t finish the meal and had to tau-pau the leftovers. Overall, a wonderful porky meal which Don Corleone might have approved too
