Sin Kee was on my ‘must-try’ list from the good reviews that I have been reading, so it was a happy ( and highly anticipated) mood when we stepped into Sin Kee .
Had a heavy breakfast so we did not want to go for an elaborate lunch but rather try the ‘stand-alone’ meals. One thing I must comment about the Uncle who took our orders, he was immaculately dressed , soft spoken and very polite.
It was around 1:30pm on a Sunday, 3 other tables were taken up, a couple of guys were enjoying western meals ( I think I see fish and chips and chicken chops) , one big family was having Chinese dishes ( I spot prawns and fish) and an Indian family was having fried rice and noodles. Wikipedia Lim had warned that during weekdays, this place is packed, and to arrive before lunch to secure a place.
We ordered the highly recommended Mun farn ( stewed rice) and Hokkien Mee.
For drinks we ordered Longan +lorhon , said to be home-made, which arrived pre-packed in plastic containers, this was pretty good, a big strong on the ‘herbal’ taste -very authentic , this was RM3.50/drink-which I think is a bit over-priced.
It was a big plate of Hokkien Mee that arrived at our table, there were slices of fishcakes, meat, squids , prawns in it. I tried some of the noodles , this was average. Not something I would recommend lah
The Mun farn was a shy dish, it arrived covered in a used-to-be-red bowl
And after removing the bowl, piles of goodies collapse from the ‘rice mountain’
There were slices of fishcakes, Chinese sausage, chicken, prawns, cabbage, onions on top of the rice flooded in thick dark gravy. I found the Mun Farn average, so it was kinda disappointing as from some of the reviews the Mun Farn at Sin Kee was ranked as the better ones in KL..Hmmm..different stroke for different folks, I guess..
Both the noodles and the rice was RM6 / serving. I guess I might go back again to savour the ala-carte dishes that were highly recommended and hope that it will be a better experience !
