Woke up at 6 a.m., pushed back the curtains…the sun was up and it was already very bright on the other side of the window ..let’s make the most out of my last day at KK…armed with my camera and a bottle of water, I headed out of the air-conditioned hotel into Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens
Certain sections were thoroughly flushed and scrubbed..
After the hustle bustle of the market place, I walked to the Waterfront…saw a man fishing at the bridge . I dare not stop or stand too close in case I frighten the fishes (and get blamed)…..it was pleasant and breezy at the Waterfront
I headed back towards the dock..and decide to stand within conversational distance to the man with his fishing line..and ..ah…he turned out to be such a friendly person. Pak Cik’s wife sells vegetables at the market place, so during the weekends, while waiting for the wife , Pak Cik fish and looks after the children.
While dad fish, the children keep themselves busy running along the wooden bridge, plucking flowers, and checking the tally of the fishes from time to time. I asked the kids to pose for a picture, the two girls obliged, but the little boy refused..
Next to Pak Cik, there was another guy with a more high tech fishing rod and gears.. for bait he used fishballs ….how ironic… Note the ‘ice box’ with the frozen water bottle and the one that didn’t get away
Made a stop at a shop selling dried seafood. Just in case you are not familiar with this scene..those black / dark grey oblong thingies at the top part of the picture are dried sea cucumber. At the lower racks are dried fish, dried anchovies, dried prawns and dried seaweed.
Outside the shop, there were trays of sea thingies – Work in progress…the top three trays are sea cucumber and in the pink tray below…seahorses ! Yup..we eat them too…the Chinese boil these for soup, said to ‘clear the blood’…
