Magi kito kecek kelate – Kelantanese Dialect

The Kelantanese dialect is very unique – even those that are fluent with the Malay language – might not be able to understand the conversation  when they hear bahaso kelate ( bahasa kelantan) being uttered.

 The signboard below found in Kota Baru

 1 . ‘ Ambo suko makan di kedai bersih , demo lagu mano’ – to be more accurate, the signboard should be reading ‘Ambo suko make di kedar besih, demo lagu mano’ .

The ‘makan di kedai bersih’  – ‘eat at a clean shop’  is a give-away.

 Ambo( pronounce ‘arm-bore’  = Hamba, literally translated, hamba = slave, which is a humble way of saying ‘me’ or saya. You can also say ‘ sayo’ or ‘kito ( which is kita = we / us . But can also make to mean ‘me’ as well as  a plural content of ‘us’)

Demo :  pronounced as ‘ there- more’  means ‘you;

Demo lagu mano = what about you

 The full sentence  – I like to eat at a clean shop, what about you

The signs below are found at the warong kopi at the market back in my kampong . Can you guess what’s they are saying  ?

2. Sedat wi tahu kawe-kawe , tak sedak ghoyak kawe

 Sedat = sedap = delicious

 Wi = beri = in this context it should be used together with the other word ’tahu’  Wi Tahu = beri tahu = to let know

Kawe-kawe ( pronounced ‘car-wear car-wear) = friends

Ghoyak ( pronounced ‘gore- yatch’) = tell

Kawe , used singularly ( compared to kawe-kawe)  means me.

 

The full  sentence means =  If it’s delicious, tell your friends, if it’s not delicious, please tell  me’

 3. Amno tok sey makene manih manih, demo lagu mano?

 Tok sey ( pronounced ‘tok- say) means = don’t want

Makene ( pronounce ‘ma – care- ner) = makanan = food

Manih manih = manis-manis = sweet

 The full sentence which is very health conscious means- I don’t want sweet food, what about you.

Of nasi lauk and getting connected

Back in my kampung,  I would walk to the market a bit before 7, climb the dark stairs and head to the nasi lauk stall at the end corner.  There are 3 other stalls selling nasi, but this is my favourite , the owner of the stall is Nah, daughter in law of the previous owner – Ghomoh. Nah sells around 30 chickens a day for her nasi stall, but says business had somewhat reduce. She starts ~6.45 am and would probably finish around lunch.

The standard  bungkus of nasi  cost ~ RM2- be it chicken or fish  , normally nasi lauk goes with fish and nasi dagang goes with chicken , but you can order any combination. You can also have some variety like : add ikan masin, or have a mixture of fish and chicken or even mixed the nasi dagang and nasi lauk ( which they used to refer as ‘kahwin’ ( marry), although the more ‘refine’ folks now  refer to it  as ‘campur’.

This is my normal breakfast when I am back in my kampong, Milo kau kau and 1 bungkus of nasi lauk ike ayo ( ikan tongkol). I am not sure how much of calories this is, but who cares !!

Kecek Kelate

Guano demo? Sehak ko dok ?

Kito nok thra tengok bolih ko dok nok tulih blog dale bahaso kelate nih, pah ado orghe ko, hok pahhe kito dok kecek gapo . Tapi keh tok soh oryat pasar orghe pehhe tok pehhe lah weh, soalnyo,  ado ko dok orghe duk baco blog ni ?

 

Kito ni bango sungguh jadi orghe kelate, sebak orghe kelate ni, baik baik belako, perase la nih, tapi oryak hok sungguh ke, bahaso kelate ni meme unik, orghe lain tok pehhe, nok oryak ghasio gapo pung bolih kecek deghah –deghah sebak orghe lain tok pehhe kito dok kecek gapo. Pah tu, kalu kito dok deghak kak jale tu, dengar bahaso ni, tok payoh pikir doh, kito tau, eh –eh, orghe asar kelate jugok dio ni.

 

Kito asar peke kecik kak kelate, sano tu, ado 5 buoh teksi jah, 4 buoh tu, tak dok airconh, sor jah hok ado airconh, laku benar teksi pokcik tu, tapi kito tok ajeng naik lagi kheto tu. Loni peke kecik pung maju doh sikit, ado pusak tuition, ado bank, ado kedar cerming mato, tapi tak dok cybercafé , Coffee Bean pung tak ado, maklung lah, orghe dok sini, cerdik, sapo nok bayar sepuloh yar beli secawe kopi, sepuluh yar tu –kalu beli nasi lauk aye, pah ,minung kopi pung lebih pitih lagi, bolih beli mace-mace kueh lagi buak balik ghumoh ko anok-anok.

 

Tapi loni pung bage-bage naik hargo sumo doh, haghi tu kito beli nasi lauk kuoh ike pung tigarmah sebukuh kak kapung, tapi kalu kigho tu, kak KL tok dapak hargo ni, nasi lemok hok tak dok gapo pung si yar doh, pah ngaso pung tok leh nok banding lah. Maso bule poso tu kito rindu saghak kuih kelate, pasar ramade hok kito gi kak KL ni, kuih dio tok napok sedak, ado banyok kedar hok juar akok, nasi dage, nasi karbu, puluk,  tapi tok sedak sangak, mungking kito tok jupo lagi hok sedak, kalu demo tau kak mano ado hok sedak tu, tolong oryak ko kito deh.

 

Oloh, ngaso cukuk lah setakak percubae kito kali ni tulih dale bahaso kelate, kito takuk jugo, nati orghe ingak kito kecek alien, pah orghe tok maghi baco blog kito doh..pah guano lah kito…kito kecek semular deh lain kali pulok , kito gi dulu deh.
