When I first saw the name Le Porc Dor on one of the Groupon’s  promotion, I thought the name belonged to a  French restaurant, then later found out that it was a play on words to make it sound French . And then  silly me thought that it was something Buddhist-y ( related to Por Thor or something to that effect) and assumed that it was a vegetarian restaurant .  I have been holding on  to the voucher to see if I could find weekends that would  coincide with the first  or fifteen  day of the Chinese calendar for this ‘vegetarian’ meal…( although the deal did say Chinese sausage with steamed chicken, pork slices and yam…I thought it’s like pseudo meat at a vegetarian restaurant one lorrr as my stubborn mind was fixated about ‘vegetarian ‘) but time was running out ( voucher expiry date was drawing near) , so any weekend seemed a good time to go vegetarian and I texted my makan kaki the day before the visit and said that we are going for a vegetarian meal…and only at night did I did  a web search and found that err…this was not a vegetarian restaurant . Me clever or not ?

The Groupon Deal :

The setting at LPD was cozy, with marbled table tops and wooden chairs and a chalk written menu on the blackboard with  the astrisk–No MSG !

We got to choose 2 soups ( from a list of nine) and decided to go with winter melon soup and lotus root, lobed Kudzuvine Soup莲藕葛汤 . the rest were fixed, so there was no need to exercise our grey matters.

Oh..before I go into the food matters, the Chinese name of LPD is 老婆多 ( translated to – many wives)  we asked the owners, what is the meaning behind the name, the lady boss replied that it is a man’s dream to have many wives ! Errr…!!  A friend once told me, one wife already headache liao..who needs more !! Maybe he is an exception..

The soups: The lotus, lobed kudzuvine soup was yummy yumyum..rich with flavours, I didn’t spot any dried octopus in it, but sure taste like they were there.

The barley winter melon soup was rather bland and paled in comparison to the kudzuvine soup above.

Stir fried yau mak with garlic –the yau mak still have some crunchiness to it and the taste was well balanced and no overkill from the garlic

Chinese sausage with steamed chicken and fungus— this felt like a homecoooked dish and reminded me of mum’s cooking and dinner time at home with mosquitoes flying over our heads and attacking our bare legs underneath the table. ( no, there are no mozzies at LPD). The steamed chicken was tender and the sausage were sausage-ish, the flavour of the sausage permeated the dish which made it fragrant and reminded me (so many reminders one this one dish..) of the Chinese new year waxed meat rice…

Pork slice and yam…ah….the yam piece crumbled under the touch..so soft and yummy. The fatty pork were a bit hard though..taste wise..nice…

Overall, I would say that this was an enjoyable meal, the service was friendly ( and the washroom was clean ). And if there were future deals, I think I will come again !

At the front of the shop, there was a display cabinets for cakes, which was kinda pelik for a Chinese restaurant, but Ms Boss explain that they run Bon Ton Cafe too..oh..that is why la..the best seller is the tiramitsu…

Another meal from the Groupon stable ..haha.. the deal was for ‘ Italian Pizza and Pasta Dinner for two, for RM28 instead of RM75.90. Details of the deal from Groupon : Met up with Chunny on a Friday night for our Groupon meal at Muse which is a restaurant, bar and club .This was my first trip to Jaya One, we had to pusing-pusing a few rounds at the parking area before finally managing to get a spot to deposit the car for a few hours. Jaya One seemed a pretty happening place especially on a Friday night.. I was lucky that Chunny seemed to know her way around Jaya One, if I was to be the navigator then um..we might end up having breakfast the next day ( or the following week) instead.

Muse setting is cozy, paintings ( for sale) adorn the walls, and there was a restaurant area and then another area catering for drinks with a  pool table. At the eating area, we sat on the transparent chairs which  wasn’t that comfy after a while. I find the tables were a bit too close to each other so one might have to lower one’s tone when discussing  about stock options, spouses/ in-laws, malfunctioned body parts and other more personal matters. Upon closer inspection , we realised the drawing that we faced ( as shown below) is actually rather cheeky one lorrr.

For drinks-which were not part of the Groupon deal,  I had the Muse Punch RM10 and Chunny had the Pussyfoot (RM9)

Soup of the day was pumpkin soup- the soup came in gigantic saucers, gigantic circumference I must add,  but the part that acts as the ‘bowl’ is probably the normal size of a soup bowl. The soup was not bad, smooth and tasty.

Seafood Aglio Olio – the pasta  was angel hair . This was interesting as it tasted very local-like .  I find this light and tasty  , not heavy and overpowering like some pasta where one get a bit jelak after a few spoonful.  Frankly, if I was blindfolded and tried  this, I might say that this was tomyam flavoured meehoon, there were ample of prawns, squids and mussels in the dish. I did a search to find out what is Aglio Olio :  Aglio means garlic and Olio means oil, there you have it, the two main ingredients for aglio olio ! This version is also said to be the simplest to pasta to prepare as it doesn’t involve too many ingredients. The Groupon deal was for an 8” Chicken triple crown pizza but as we were feeling rather malnutritioned when we were ordering, we were enticed by the waitress to top up another RM8 to  add another four inches to the diameter of the pizza. Eh…that got me thinking, in countries that use the metric system- do they also order their pizza by the inches or centimeters ? The triple crown pizza turn out to be the thin crust type and for the toppings we had  three different styles of chicken, olives , pineapple and mushroom. At one point of time, where there seemed to be still a large number of pizza slices on the plate and we were starting to feel some fullness around the middle -  we wondered aloud that maybe we should have just stuck with the 8” instead, anyway, waste not, want not, we finished the pizza . This was pretty enjoyable  pizza .Overall, an enjoyable meal at Muse.

This was our first dining experience using the Groupon voucher, a 2 course western meal at RM33 ( usual price RM74.24) sounds like a very attractive deal. There was a footnote that the voucher exclude the RM5 jockey parking fees.

Two days prior to the visit, Chunny called to made reservations, we arrived at about 6:30pm and the parking area or maybe more suitable to say- the open space – which was situated directly  in front of the Chandelier , was empty. Before disembarking from the vehicle,  someone came up to us to collect a RM5 parking fee. We weren’t very happy to pay that amount of money and after a brief discussion amongst ourselves, we drove away and parked the car at a furniture showroom across the road…cheapskate ahhh ? no lah..i would say it’s a matter of principle !  And been a bit thin-skinned, we wanna give a bit of face to the shop and thus went through the glass door . We karpor around the shop, ohh-ahh over the grandiose accessories , tsk tsk over the price tag of the furniture,  and after about 15 minutes decided that that was enough of face given, we slipped out of the door and walk across the road back to the Chandelier, I wonder did the carpark attendant contemplate to throw stones / shoes at us when he saw us, anyway, we arrived safely without any mishaps.

One could dine indoors or under the stars, as it was a cool windy day, we decide to dine alfresco. Chunny decide to play paparazzi , thanks to quick reactions from yours truly, Chunny’s plot was foiled.  The choices for starters: Seafood soup or chef salad  and for the main course , options are : whole grilled sea bass or braised lamb shank .To cover all the bases , we ordered all the above.

The chef salad had fresh tomatoes, Portobello mushrooms, rucola*, and parmesan flakes tossed together in balsamic dressing. This was refreshing and light , a good way to build up the appetite for the following course. And then disaster strike…the battery of my camera  had gone flat and I didn’t bring along the spare battery….would this be a meal without photos ? would this spell the end of Bual2kosong ? was this a conspiracy of the jockey and the furniture shop ? Luckily Chunny’s handphone came to the rescue..the following photos are courtesy of my trusted makan chum – Chunny..

 * checked out what Rucula is  , extract from  http://www.qwhatis.com/what-is-rucola/   :also known as arugula, eruca, Italian cress, garden rocket, rocket, or roquette, rucola is an edible green leafy plant that belongs to the mustard family. Its scientific name is eruca vesicaria sativa and is said to be found only in countries near the Mediterranean region particularly Portugal, Turkey, Lebanon, and Morocco.

Rucola is an annual plant related to watercresses and radishes. It could grow from about 8 inches up to almost 40 inches in height. Its leaves can grow as big as 8 inches in length while its flowers are usually 2 to 4 cm in diameter. Since the Roman times, rucola has been grown on dry ground as vegetables. It was said that the Romans used rucola leaves for cooking vegetable dishes and the rucola seeds were used as flavoring for oil. The Romans also started using the rucola plant to make aphrodisiacs and substances used for medicinal purposes.

Rucola is said to contain lots of vitamins and minerals including folate, magnesium, potassium, calcium, vitamins C and A. It is also very low in calories and the leaves can be eaten raw, mixed with salads, or cooked as normal vegetables. Many people also prefer to have rucola sautéed and added to pasta dishes, much like the pesto version that people are more familiar of. Some people also use it along with grilled meat because of its strong flavor and peppery taste.

Seafood soup – the soup was filled with prawns, mussels, squid and clams in a light tomato sauce. This was like tomato soup with seafood. The soup was tasty and we can’t help but  compare the two starters and though that the seafood soup was more value for money compared to the salad

For the main course, I had the grilled sea bass. The fish was said to be ‘aromatised with rosemary thyme’ , it was rather tasty but I find the texture of the fish a bit too soft, I am not sure is that the nature of sea bass or not lah.. the fish had some green salad for company.

The braised lamb shank was a wonderful sight, it came sitting on top of a bed of  mashed potato. The lamb was fell of the bone tender and didn’t have that overly strong kambing-ish smell.  The fresh mushroom gravy went very well with the lamb. This was good.

While we were enjoying our meal the live band came on, this is a daily affair and comes on after 9 pm. Chandelier is pork free and serves alcohol. The ambience is cozy and romantic, a good venue for couples, and  to leave a good impression on your date please pay the jockey the RM5 instead of parking your car across the road  :P

Overall, a good dining experience.
