The meal at Desa Kopitiam for 2 pax from the Groupon promotion was for ‘Authentic local set meal with watermelon + ABC for RM15 instead of RM27 ,  the promo include :

Since an earlier incident where I lost track of the expiry dates of one of the Groupon vouchers and suffered a loss of RM20 ( and the missed opportunity of a meal that might change my life), I have created a folder for my vouchers and hope that there will not be anymore of such wasteful incidents ! Rugi la…

Getting a parking space at Danau Desa can be chaotic, I don’t see that many people around but the parking lots were always full.  I wonder where all these cars were from ?  Anyway, we were lucky today and managed to find a parking space reasonably easy, must be a spillover of good karma from Wesak day yesterday ka ?

The ambience at Desa Kopitiam was cozy, with wooden furniture. The seating areas at the inner part of the cafe was airconditioned while the outer section at the five foot way were equipped with ceiling fans

After showing our voucher to the waiter, we were provided with the menu and told of the five choices for the main course  : fish head noodles, chicken noodle soup, curry laksa, kampong fried rice or fish paste noodles, – we decided to go for the  fish head noodles and curry laksa.

The fish head noodles- the soup was rich and on the verge of being creamy –this was rather enjoyable, the soup was not overly sourish which is the version that i prefer lah. There were 3 large pieces of fish but not that much of meat and I find the pieces a bit over-fried making the meat a bit tough.

Curry laksa- the soup had that fresh and spice taste that clears up your head and your nostrils ( in a good way). The chicken was just rightly cooked- the meat was  smooth and tender. There were generous amounts of fish paste slices and bean sprouts in the soup. There were also long beans in the laksa, missing was the cockels ( see-ham)..Ohh Seehum…where art thou lerrr ?

The ABC ( ice kacang) looked fabulous and taste pretty good too, only complain is that  it was a bit too sweet probably due to the large amount of gula melaka in the shaved iced. Apart from the usual ABC ingredients like- cincau, jelly ( I usually do not consume those colourful cubes of jellies that appears in ABC but I liked the firm texture of the jelly served at Desa Kopitiam), red beans, corn, cendol and peanuts- there were canned lychees in the ABC, which added a nice twist of flavour to this dessert

Service was commendable, the staff were quick to attend to the diners needs and were clearing the debris on the tables  promptly and efficiently

Overall, an enjoyable meal.

Pan Mien seemed to be an in thing nowadays, stalls dedicated to selling pan mien has been sprouting ( and some also faced their early demise) in and around KL, we read an article in the papers mentioning Pan Mien at Ceggo and decide to give it a try.

We arrived on a Sunday morning after taichi class.  Cozy reading corners were available, paperbacks, magazines , newspaper and board games were also available on the shelves, kinda make me wonder how does one play board games while slurping steaming pan mien ? One can sit indoors ( air-conditioned) or outdoors ( natural air), the environment was quiet and civilized  i.e. not the regular kopitiam hustle bustle :-) .

The writer of the  article was raving about the tomyam noodles, but as it was a bit early to shock my digestive system with this expected-to-be fiery noodles, I opted for the original pan mien –ala dried version : dry Pan Mien, my makan companion opted for the traditional pan mien. Other versions of pan mien available at Ceggo include  : Spinach, pumpkin, tomato , dry curry and the aforementioned tomyam.

We also ordered the special promotion – RM4 for fried dumplings

Traditional Pan Mien (RM5.50)  – noodles were smooth, soup was kinda weak , a bit stingy on the toppings , well- this was  kinda average which I could probably get at a food centre ( more noise pollution, but probably a bit more tasty and maybe costing a bit less)

Dried Pan Mien – the dark sauce was average, taste wise also average .My main concern was the soup. This was served in a container that resemble a teacup and I don’t know about you but I am not used to drinking soup from a teacup and my spoon was too big to go into the teacup orifice to get to the soup, so, it was a big puzzle for me lah. Or maybe I should have asked for a straw ? While eating Ceggo’s pan mien, I start to crave for my regular pan mien supplied by Sepetang Kopitiam ( coming posting)

Deep fried dumpling : a bit too much skin and not enough filing

Overall, based on what we ordered – a so-so experience, but maybe if you do visit , please try out the other pan mien versions offered by Ceggo as when I checked out the other blogs, most of them spoke highly  about Ceggo ! Maybe I was too hung up about my soup in a teacup guarr  :-P

S had some issues at her office, and need to unload her grouses, so we decide to meet up for a  teatime-dinner meal ( is this called  Teaner ? ). Cafe Libre seemed a good place for chit chats, cozy,  not so crowded, with a choice of non air-conned or air-conned dining area. ( plus wi-fi). This seemed like a good place to talk about insurance policy, mutual funds and grouse about colleagues :P

Cafe Libre offers varieties of teas, fruit smoothies and coffee. For meals the selection include , salads, pasta and lighter finger food like sandwiches, fries, curry puffs are available.

S wanted something light and decided to go for Caesar  salad with roast chicken ( the other option is with anchovies) and I wanted some carbo and went with beef lasagna .

The Beef Lasagna (RM18.90) was laden with minced beef heavily seasoned with tomato-ish flavour. I find the tomato flavor a bit heavy and  slightly sour-ish . Some parts of the lasagna were a bit tough. This was average.

Caesar salad with roast chicken (RM12.50)  - rather large serving, from the size of this, this is a meal on it’s own.  Big leafy lettuce lined the dish, tomatoes, well marinated cubed chicken , bits of hard boiled eggs, cucumber were  seasoned with cheese, mayo and pepper. Oh ya, and the bits of crouton . This was rather nice, although I found the chicken cubes a bit dry.

Overall, I found the food average. Service was good  plus a  cozy environment
