Another meal from the Groupon deal..really, sometimes I wonder do I save more or spend more because of all the Groupon deals…

Details of this particular promotion -  for RM22, you get a premium Australian beef rib eye steak served with garden salad and steak fries (RM39.60 value), plus a soup of the day (RM5.40 value) Total value –  RM45

The setting at El Toro was cozy .. wooden chairs and tables.. low lightsAnd while waiting for our orders, we manage to learn a bit about the parts of the baa-baa and the moo-moo..and just in case you would like to know too…

One could order one’s preference weight of steaks, ribs and lambs , prices range from RM15 /100g for premium grass to RM55/100g for wagyu rib eye.  Other items on the menu include : mixed grill for RM32.90, Pan fried salmon in teriyaki sauce @RM24.90, Classic beef burger @RM14.90, double beef burger @RM28.90, lamb burger @RM17.90 etc .

My makan companion ordered Iced lemon tea ( RM5) which came out of a cute bottle ( which we later took away as well- greedy folks that we are)Soup of the day was homemade mushroom soup and this is the absolute mother of the mushroom soups that I have tasted so far. This was so very delicious. The moment the soup was making their way towards our table, the aroma of mushroom filled the air  and brought out uncontrolled tears of appreciation and uncontrolled flow of saliva..it was so very mushroomyummyyy. Every drop was so precious and when it came down to the final spoonful , I felt rather melancholy ..Ah ..yumyum…
We were asked about the doneness of our steak, for me , I have only been ordering one doneness my whole life i.e. well done , but the server who took our order urged  us to try ‘medium well’ as well done can be too dry. We decide to accept the recommendation and although the still pinkish centre caused a bit of a hesitation but after biting into it, hey this was not bad , i.e. not as raw as it looked. The steak still had some juiciness and was rather tender. The 200gm premium grass fed rib eye steak came with garden salad and parmesan shavings plus fries. Both of us enjoyed our steak very much..After our meal, we kaypor at the counter and found that apart from makan-ing your steak at El Toro, El Toro is also a butchery where one could get a wide range of meat . I forgot to ask the servers what is the meaning of El Toro, while writing this- i did google translate and learnt that in Spanish this means The Bull

Overall, a very enjoyable meal..and i will be back for the mushroom soup..

Subang Avenueis located beside Carefour Subang Jaya, the building looks rather new but apart from a few restaurants and bistros at the boulevard, the building was rather empty. Saw some cute signs at the ladies :

This was another meal from the Groupon deals :  Traditional Italian tomato soup + Main course : Choose from New Jersey Chicken Fillet, Grilled Butter Fish Fillet, Linguine Carbonara or Linguine ala Thai. For drinks : choose from Coke, Sprite or iced lemon tea. All for RM 20.90, the actual value said to be up to RM56.70. That is why I love Groupon lorrrr..

Before our meal, we loiter around Subang Parade, I dunno about you, but I am not a fan of the design of Subang Parade, it’s so confusing, the walkways that lead this way and that, and before you can find an escalator to go to a lower floor, you have to go up the walkway to the next floor and only then find an escalator to take you downstairs. ARRGGGGGggggg, or maybe it’s just my low IQ…like the malay proverb – tidak pandai menari dikatakan lantai jongkang jongket – translated to mean, you ah..dunno how to dance hor..then you say that the floor is uneven

And apart from the complain above, the next complain is..where is Chillout ? there were signs that looked promising, but then we just ended up nowhere, called the bistro and we were told to go to Cold Storage in Parkson and you will see Chillout,  so we headed towards Cold Storage, where the heck was the bistro lahh…called again and was told to go up the escalator then we should see Chillout… ok,,,did that, then ended up in the ladies department—eh..inside here got bistro mehh..what the …went downstairs and then try from the beginning, Cold Storage- checked, go up escalator- checked, but we ain’t see no Chillout laaahhhhh ! then asked the staff in Parkson, and went round a few circles..then finally got the right instruction—oh..suppose to go out the door from Parkson, aiya..early early say laa…..sorry, you might be tired of reading already, I promise we will be back to the intended topic soon. I think I would banish any thoughts of participating in the Amazing Race challenge…So, I suggest the best way is to walk from the outside of Subang Parade, you would have a better chance of finding the place

We had to climb a few stairs to the bistro, passed the bar area, a few guys were having a couple of beers. a few overhanging TVs were showing football matches, we were shown to the enclosed restaurant area.  I liked the setting which was simple and cozy

For drinks both of us chose to have ice lemon tea ( RM11.90)

The waiter came by with our cutlery , then a more senior staff came by and show the staff the correct way to arrange the cutlery. And then it was time for the traditional Italian tomato soup (RM10.90). This was overly salty to be enjoyable, Was the saltiness intentional ? I dunno   I guess I am not a true Italian and therefore could not appreciate the traditional soup if it was suppose to be so salty.

Then the main course : New Jersey Chicken Fillet ( RM26.90) , when my makan companion for that day i.e. my niece saw the ( few) slices of chicken sitting on the mash potatoes  her eyes widen and said- so little meat, can be full mehh ? This was nice and eventually the mash potatoes did filled me up..

Grilled Butter Fish Fillet with butter lemon sauce (actual price  RM33.90) , the fish fillet sat prettily on the mash potato cushion, accompanied by an orchestra of blanched vegetable and sauces. Niece enjoyed this too

Overall, an enjoyable meal and I think I might come back again ( but not for the tomato soup lahh) ..From the website, it says Live bands entertain crowds from 9pm to midnight on Wednesday to Saturday, but we ended our meal before that and didn’t get to be entertained by the  band

I hadn’t been to Subang Parade for sometime, and I was always puzzled by the matrix of walkways that connect the floors, it’s like a maze for me, I felt so guinea-pig-ish trying to move from one floor to the other and find that the target place is always not where I end up at. Maybe it’s just me with my myopic vision. Maybe I should start saving up to get a  GPRS.

Was not sure what to have for lunch, there’s a shop called  Uncle Lim that had a big crowd but F is no fan of Penang themed food, pass. KFC, Nandos, McD , pass, Cafes – pass. Hmm..what’s this- Dave Deli..oh..F eyed the western themed menu displayed outside the place and nodded. Hurahhh..lunch!

Ordering is done at the serving counter. I wasn’t very hungry and decide to try out the pies. My choice -  Chicken and mushroom pie @RM6.90 – tasty gravy swarmed the pie, soggy pie but taste ok. Not that much of filing, more pastry than filing but the taste works, Add a side order of cole slaw @ RM2.80 which  almost filled up ¼ of my plate. Well worth it ? Finely shredded cabbage, not too heavy on the mayo- not too much of guilt

F was hungry and decided to go for the Combo 2 in 1 .For RM16.50 you get 2 types of pasta – spaghetti bolognise and lasange , The tomato gravy was ok , Lasange was not bad but it got  a bit soggy from the gravy of the spaghetti . The serving was rather big and F tummy had expanded a few cms after the meal.

We ordered 2 glasses of Iced lemon tea @RM3.50 /glass. Total bill came to be RM33.20

On that day of our visit, the place was rather packed. The ¼ chicken meal seemed to be a popular order  as I saw quite a large number of people eating that.
