I am a magnet for getting lost, maybe the magnet short circuited the compass- hence the reason I am always getting lost..for that reason I got myself a GPS unit and err..i must have bought a defective unit for the unit will  always either be in a   ‘unable to locate satellite’ mode or telling me that I am in Jinjang when I am not any where near . Maybe the magnet short circuited the satellite too…and err..no offense to the people in Jinjang, I am sure it is a nice place and all that..

When I use the GPS, I also want to impose my ‘gut feel’ as well ( of which I have none but that didn’t stopped me )- which resulted in the GPS having to work overtime to ‘recalculate’ when I make a left turn instead of following the mat salleh accented  directions telling me to make a right turn..

Sorry, we were talking about food horr..i somehow got lost..

The meal at Herbs and Spices was a Living Social promotion where we paid RM20 and got a RM40 worth of spendomh . Good eh ? Finding the location was not too difficult, look for The Store at Sri Petaling and drive along the road and you will be able to see Herbss and Spices at the shoplots opposite The Store. Parking is a bit of a problem though, so good luck and be patient.

We were lucky to find a parking space ( that made up for lost time – no pun intended) , we were shown to a table and given a colourful menu full of pictures. The front page of the menu condense the variety of the food served at the restaurant as : Chops and Steaks, Pasta, Nasi Lemak , Nasi Dagang.menu

The choices for western food  include steak ,  lamb, chicken and seafood. The prices seemed rather ok -  examples : – grilled ribeye steak @ RM28.80, Sirloin steak @RM26.80 , braised lamb shanks @RM26.50, chicken chops for RM15.90 , Fish and chips RM13.90and seafood

The noodles and rice category include : Mee Hailam, Mee Mamak, Seafood laksa, nasi goreng Seri Petaling with prices ranging from RM7.90 – RM12.50. Pastas- Spaghetti Bolognese, spaghetti pesto , seafood fettucine with prices from RM12.50 – RM 16.50

And there is one section of the menu dedicated to nasi dagangnasi dagang

Salads and soups are available, including a breakfast menu .Desserts include : apple pie, cream caramel, sago Melaka, banana split. Peach melba. One of the wall was covered with pictures of what I guessed to be the chef recommendation – made my saliva also drop lah.on the wall

For drinks, we ordered a cold honey lemon drink ( RM4) and Assam Fizz ( RM3.50), the Assam Fizz was great, a gassy drink ( Sprite ? Ice Cream soda ? 100 plus ?) and 2 assam boi- yummy. I wanna try making this at home..drinks

I ordered the Roast Herb Chicken ( RM15.90)- quarter chicken served with mash potatoes and coleslaw. The drumstick plus some, was tender and nicely flavoured, the herb-ish flavour wasn’t overpowering ( lucky). The black pepper sauce wasn’t heavy handed and went well overall with the mash potato, coleslaw and steamed vegetable- this was not bad.roasted chicken

Carmen had the Grilled salmon ( RM19) – when I saw that thick chunk of salmon, I was envious, it looked really good , the  thickness ensured that the salmon would not be overly dry and maintain a juicy and moist textute. This was yum !Salmon

Overall, the food was enjoyable, the service was prompt and friendly and the environment was cozy.setting

The bill came to RM44.50- which meant that we have to pay an extra RM4.50 on top of the Living Social Coupon-  the actual damage was  RM20 + RM4.50 = RM24.50 . Sweet !

S got a big fat juicy bonus and gave me treat (no, I didn’t beg, honest !).That’s what friends are for, to share your joys, pains and bonuses. If you received a bonus and would like to share your joy with someone, you know who to call. :-)

We stepped into Restoran Overseas at around noon , the place was packed, lucky for us there was an empty small table beside the counter which could fit the two of us snugly.

 We ordered …

Crispy meat puff / Ham sui kok 咸水角(RM6.30), having mediocre experiences with ham sui kok so far , I didn’t expect too much from this but hey, this was not bad worr . The filing was tasty with Chinese sausage kind of a flavour. Me likeyyy. Char siu pau (baked bbq pork bun)  RM5.00– nice fluffy skin with tasty bbq pork filings  –the filing was not overly sweet . Good pau !Pan fried meat dumpling (RM6.30) 香煎锅贴饺– the dumpling was stuffed with vegetable and meat. The skin is kinda thick as per usual for fried dumplings  but it kinda worked. Not bad too. Pan fried raddish cake (RM5.50) – I find this a bit floury and not very outstanding. Maybe should have ordered the stir fried version instead to hide that floury flavour.Lotus Sesame balls 蓮 蓉芝麻枣(RM5.00) – the  bean paste filing was smooth and not too sweet. The outer -sesame laden skin was springy with a bit of a bite. I liked this.Overall, an enjoyable meal. Thanks S and may you have many more big juicy bonuses ! haliluyaaahhhhhhh

I was given the assignment to decide on a makan place. Aiya….first I had to decide on the type of meal, umm.. maybe will go for western food, and as for location –I think I have exhausted the eateries around Kuchai Lama and it’s time to look for a change in venue, Sri Petaling seemed a good place to start ! That was how we ended up at Uncle R original Charcoal BBQ…

We studied the menu, the prices seemed reasonable   – grilled BBQ chicken for RM9.90, charcoal grilled BBQ lamb RM15.90 ( regular) &RM24.90 ( L), grilled salmon / cod RM20.90, mixed grilled chicken + lamb +beef  RM18.90 ( R) & RM25.90 (L), chicken combo ( with fried rice and fried egg) RM12.90 and the lamb combo RM15.90.

We were a bit undecided on what to have for our dinner until we saw the promotional item : Christmas set lunch /dinner ( yes, I am so behind in my postings) @RM26nett. Did some quick math , the regular sized mixed grilled was priced at RM18.90 and fresh fruit juices at RM3.90, that’s already RM23, and got soup worrrr, ice cream worrr..aiyaaa…sure can finish one lah, why worry, we eat slowly slowly lorrr..Business was good that night, we saw a group of about 15 pax , and some smaller groups of fours and twos. The charcoal grilled pit was in front of the shop, we saw slabs of meat grilling over the fire and Uncle R ( Ronnie) himself was manning the grill. For drinks we had kedondong..hmm…nice. Apart from fruit juices , cincau, soya bean , beers and guiness are also availableThe garlic bread – this arrived at our table not warmed, so it was kinda hard and stale-ish. Mushroom soup – normal lah ..

The mixed grilled- the grilled beef was good, the meat was tender . I worry when I order lamb for sometimes this can be a bit ‘sou’ which is a put –off for me, luckily ,  this particular one didn’t have that undesireable taste , the soft ribs were cooked just right, not over dried but still retaining  the succulent texture and the surprise was the chicken, well marinated  and blended in well with the black pepper-ish sauce. Our dessert – Ice cream with wafer, checked the menu – this cost RM3.90

When the crowd thinned ,  Uncle R came to our table for a chat and apologized  for our wait for our meal and explained that due to the charcoal grill, the meal couldn’t be hurried. He also showed us the photos of classmate gatherings as well as the patrons of the shop which were on display at a corner of the shop.

Overall , a pretty ok meal.
