On Thursday,  I called up Outdoor Adventure to reserve a table for lunch on Sunday and the person that answered the phone said that there will not be a problem as lunch time is not a busy time for them. With that in mind, I was expecting it to be pretty slow and quiet…

We arrived at Outdoor Adventure at about 1pm, the staff were busy prepping up the place, there was one guy wiping the glass doors, another was re-filing the bottles of sauces and we were the only patron at the restaurant…One could sit outdoor or in the  air-conditioned indoor seating area. as it was a hot day, we chose to sit in artificial air..the ambience was cozy. So, if you would like to impress your date ( or potential mother-in-law)  that you booked the whole restaurant for him/her, you might be able to pull it off here..yeah , just like in the movies ..setting

From the beer brands logos on display all over the place – you could tell that this was probably a place where people come to lepak for a drink or two..err..rather than for a quite Sunday lunch- that is.menu

We had RM60 to spend ( yes, another online voucher thingy) and after doing some simple mathematics, the set meal of a fruit juice plus a main course for RM26 seemed rather reasonable. Charlie chose fish and chips while I selected the grilled pork chop.

If not as a set meal, the fruit juice were RM6 each. Freshly squeezed apple and lime juicedrinks

The fish and chips came with coleslaw, fries and a fried bun. The fish had a heavy coat of batter, not sure where there more fish of more batter, probably something that came out of a box. One very interesting thing was that when the waiter deliver the dish, he didn’t come from the inside of the building but rather from outside of the restaurant…hmm ? This was averagefishnchips

The grilled pork was also came from outside of the building to our table…Hmm..? the portion of the grilled pork chop was generous, and this came with the same side dishes as the fish and chips. The pork was tender and juicy. This was enjoyable. I didn’t use the black pepper sauce that came with the dish but enjoyed it in the ‘pure’ oink oink version. the sauce tasted good too though.grilled pork

When we settled our bills I asked for a name card and ehh..the name card said ‘Star Village’ , which was at the building next door..ok, that explained why the food came from ‘outside’.

This is another trend that has been ongoing for sometime -  dessert houses -usually ala Taiwan with the shaved iced and stuff . It was amazing to see that ( most) of these places are so popular regardless of the time of the day, and the cost of a sweet craving outing may easily surpass the cost of a decent meal..anyway, guess no one is counting…

The posting below is from two separate trips with two different group of people..

The first trip to Pick Me Up(PMU) was with Chunny, we just finished dinner – a light dinner ( the lightness of the dinner is up to interpretation, to our standards, it was light- so you should take our word for it), and Chunny suggested dessert, as I was waiting to be coaxed to let my digestive system work harder, it didn’t take any persuasion to navigate our way to Kuchai Lama for some dessert. I have noticed PMU for a few weeks but hadn’t had the excuse opportunity for a visit..

At PMU, before you settle down , you place your order at the counter (as well as pay for the meal) and the food will be brought to your table..

Chunny ordered the Hot grass jelly (RM6.50)  with lotus seed and yam. Hot grass jelly equates to liquid cincau. This looks ( and taste healthy). It was interesting to see that when the dessert starts to cool, they do solidify into the familiar cincau..

I had Frozen yogurt ( froyo) priced at RM6.50 and I get to select three toppings. The choice of toppings include : barley, cornflakes, crushed peanuts, lotus seed, malt, mango, nata de coco, Oreo cookies, Pearl, red beans, toasted oats, taro balls. I chose to have lotus seeds, taro balls and red beans. The froyo was delicious, it was smooth , light and not too sweet and well, you know la..yogurt is healthy, so the guilt feeling was not present, which made this even more enjoyable. The toppings were not too bad too, the taro balls were err..not exactly in the shaped of balls but if they insist to termed this as balls, I might say it was in the shaped of elongated balls. This was chewy and went well with the yogurt..

The second trip to PMU was a result of a disastrous lunch and I need to redeem myself…

I decided to try out the ice tower : Mango ice with soft ice cream (RM7.50) and you get to choose 3 toppings to go with this. The toppings include : barley, cornflakes, crushed peanuts, lotus seed, malt, mango, Nata De cCoco, Oreo cookies, Pearl, red beans, toasted oats, taro balls. Mango Ice with froyo ( frozen yogurt) was priced at RM8.50. Other flavours include blueberry and strawberry with the similar available options of  having the fruity ice sandwiched with either soft ice cream or froyo.

What you get is mango flavoured ice shavings packed into a glass ( with ice cream) in between , and then the glass is inverted and voila- you have a mango ice tower. Taste wise, this taste like mango ice shavings with ice cream- which was pretty straight forward, I think I prefer to just have the ice cream or froyo on their own,  as the ice shavings diluted the essence of the ice cream / froyo . I guess this thingy would be good for a group where there is a taller tower 19cm height : Fruity Tower Ice or Taiwanese Tower Ice , available at RM13.50, and you try to meet the challenge of consuming but not toppling the tower – kinda like playing Jengka ( the block game).

Fen ordered soft ice cream (RM 5.50) with oreo cookies + taro balls + toasted oats – which was not a bad  combination. Frankly, i don’t think i can differentiate the soft ice cream or froyo..how ha ? Carmen ordered soft ice cream with blueberry sauce + pearl and toasted oatsThe place was cozy and pleasant, the washroom was clean and  I think I will come back again – with or without excuses..

Of the four legged edible animals – oh..i better quantify this as I heard of a saying that except for the table- everything four legged can be eaten by the Chinese, of the four legged commonly known edible animals like the moo-moo, the baaa-baaa, the wooww—woow…OOpps..here I go again, NO, I would like to stressed- at this blog we don’t eat the woow-woow one . let’s re-start , of the four legged commonly known edible animals like the moo-moo, the baaa-baaa, the oink oink…I think the oink-oink is the most full proof, no gamey taste, the meat usually won’t be too tough and the fatty bits taste extremely good..what is there not to like about pork ? A dramatic introduction to visiting a porky themed makan place..

We were at Tery Pork on Friday eve ..and it was a wet evening, which seemed to be the staple for the last few days…rain.. rain…intermittent disruption in the transmission of the Astro programs…thunder…wind…flash floods in KL…rain… humongous traffic jam..ho hummm…life goes on..

Our deal for the coupon  for RM25.90 was for a 4-Course Set Meal for 2 Pax , which include :
- Two Minestrone Soup
- Two Green Salad
- Two T-Bone Pork Steak
- Two Dessert

Salad – not sure what the sauce was, when I checked online while writing this post..some blogs mentioned that this was  the (Japanese) sesame dressing called Goma dressing .  it was tangy and felt healthy..haha… Hmmm ..a good appetizer although the portion were not that big . I think one might be able to get this dressing at the supermarkets and if not, you can always make your own, click here for the recipe to prepare Goma dressing

Next up- Minestrone soup : cabbage and carrots in a delightful soup, we couldn’t place the flavour, it reminded us of something, but we can’t place it…until…the spoon found pieces of roast pork in the soup. Aha ! so this was where that exquisite flavour came from : roast pork..  nice… Try out Jamie Oliver’s Minestrone soup recipe-

The T-Bone pork steak- the meat was so tender and smooth..the portion was  rather thin though and this sat on top of mash potatoes. The mash potatoes wasn’t the usual boring mash potatoes, but taste like they have been somewhat fried with oil ( lard ?– they taste like they were-anyway).  Had a bit of a guilty feeling as they seemed to be rather oily. The people at Tery Pork know how to treat their pork ! Nice…While we were enjoying our meal, the table next to ours had black bowls containing some sizzling stuff delivered to their table, these gave out  wonderful whiffs of salted fish , this might be the Stone bowl of salted fish and belly rice..

Dessert – this appeared to be something like a pandan and custard cake- nothing to shout about, if I was wasteful with food, I probably wouldn’t have finish it..but my mama always told me ( spoken in Forest Gump tone and expression ) to finish my food..so I did.

The place was cozy, but could do with better furniture rather than plastic tables and chairs. The serving portions weren’t that big- not sure was what we had their usual serving size or the sizes for the special promotion.

Overall, a nice meal and I think I will return to try out the rest of the menu.
